A win for the individual who stood his ground! Who says that the little guy cannot win against a 500 pound gorilla? McCandlish & Lillard’s litigation attorneys recently received a successful result for its client, a former Vice President of an extremely profitable Section 8A Alaskan Native Corporation.
The client had been terminated by the Corporation in violation of his employment agreement and deprived of numerous employment benefits and compensation owed to him. Determined that he would not be intimidated by the Corporation or its in-house counsel, the client immediately sought the advice of attorneys at McCandlish & Lillard, who guided him through the termination and negotiation process. When numerous attempts to resolve the dispute with the Corporation failed, McCandlish & Lillard filed suit on behalf of the client seeking damages for multiple counts of breach of contract, as well as for the client’s attorney’s fees.
After months of discovery, the Corporation paid and/or settled four of the five claims filed by McCandlish & Lillard against it. However, the hotly contested breach of contract claim regarding the grounds for termination was ultimately litigated before the American Arbitration Association. The Arbitrator found in favor of the client and awarded McCandlish & Lillard the lion’s share of its attorney’s fees.
